2001-2002: Alex is our best athlete and our most
experienced player. We've got her at the '2' now (replacing last
season's leading scorer Sarah Zondor) because we want her to have the ball in
her hands. The point guard gives up the ball. The '2' guard
receives it. Alex might be the best all-around player in this part of
the state.
2000-2001: Alex is ready for a
breakout year and will start at the point for us. She is an all-area
player selected to the fourth all-state team by Hoosier Basketball
Magazine. Alex studies the game more than all our other players.
She'll play three positions this year, which will permit her to score more
and become more of a catalyst with the ball. Alex is a multi-sport
athlete (soccer/track), an All-DAC selection and the finest player in this
region when she plays within herself.
1999-2000: Alex has
improved tremendously over last year. She's very strong and has
good size for a point guard. She's at a point physically where
she can play the entire game and not get tired. She's got great
anticipation, good speed, good hands. She's getting better and
better. People have to understand that she's played four games
as a sophomore. She's got 2-3/4 years left. Her assists
(29) to turnover (12) rate is more than 2-to-1. Now, 2-to-1 is
good for a point guard. Of course, I want her to be better than
good. Alex is a student of the game. You can sit down with
her and she can tell you who the top 10 teams and the top 10 players
in the state are. Really, the only other player I've ever had
who could do that was Tracy Roller.
1998-1999: Alex has the potential
to be a very fine player. She's played an awful lot of basketball and
she's come a long way. But she's still learning and she still has a long
way to go. She will compete for the 1 spot and she will play some
3. Alex has a great first step and she has the ability to elevate over
the defender. She can bench press 125 pounds as a freshman and she has
physically prepared herself to play. I won't play her at the 4 because
they could gang up on her down there and she couldn't use her ability.
What we're going to try to do with her is not what we did with Anne Kvachkoff
('85), Nancy Cowan ('85) and Tracy Roller ('89), which is not to throw her out
there immediately. We want her to do what she's capable of and have the
other kids accept her. She's just a freshman and she's new to
them. But we are looking for her to have a lot of good basketball ahead
of her.
