CROWN POINT -- Tied after three quarters, Crown Point and Martinsville's rematch of the 1997 Class 3A state championship was as close as expected.

But the fourth quarter was all Martinsville.

Danielle Miller scored 14 of her game-high 15 points in the final period as the Artesians blanked Crown Point 18-0 en route to a 43-25 victory in the championship of the Crown Point Holiday Tournament.

"We were mixing our defenses all night, and the 1-2-1 pressure really started to work," Martinsville Vince Cerbone said. "Crown Point wasn't knocking down any shots and they seemed to get a little rattled when Mitchell got hot."

Fort Wayne Carroll won the consolation game, routing Lew Wallace 93-35. Martinsville topped Carroll 69-58 in overtime to reach the final, while Crown Point dusted Lew Wallace 69-22.

The Bulldogs (8-5) committed eight turnovers and were 0 for 8 from the floor in the final quarter. Crown Point star Alex Webster was just 4 of 15 from the floor, including one of her last nine, for nine points.

"We got a little tired and Martinsville forced somebody other than Webster to score and none of the other kids could get it done so I think (Webster) forced it just a little bit out of desperation," Crown Point coach Tom May said. "You're not going to win when you don't score, and tonight it was only (Cassie) Pruzin (team-high 10 points) and Webster who were doing anything."

The game featured six lead changes and five ties, with Martinsville (9-5) opening its biggest lead of the first half at 12-6. Crown Point answered with a 9-0 to take its largest lead of the half at 15-12, with Pruzin scoring seven of her points in the run.

Martinsville senior guard Mandy Geryak, headed for Xavier, hit five of her six shots in the first half, scoring 12 of her 14 points.

"They had three or four kids on the floor with good quickness, and we were not trapping the ball real well," May said. "And we couldn't prevent them from getting good shots."

Crown Point took its final lead at 25-24 on Carissa Triplett's only basket of the night, a putback for one of her game-high 16 rebounds.
