Andrean at Crown Point

Crown Point 60, Andrean 35

The CP Lady Bulldogs Super Fans were out in droves for this great annual rivalry.  The full house faithful weren't disappointed as the Dogs took it to the 'Niners from start to finish in a 25-point win.

The annual rivalry between Andrean and Crown Point is legendary, as a number of Crown Point residents decide to forego public school to attend the parochial high school just several miles north of Crown Point.  This is a game both schools look forward to on an annual basis, but the Lady Bulldogs have gotten the upper hand in this matchup over the past four years, going 3-1 during that time.  The 'Niners came into this game with a No. 7 ranking in 3A, but just like Hebron the night before, they didn't have an answer for the Lady Bulldogs on this night.

Although Andrean opened up the scoring for the night, the 59'ers simply could not contain the senior duo of Carissa Triplett in the post and Alex Webster on the perimeter from the get-go.  In fact, the pair scored all but two of the Bulldogs' first half points through two commanding quarters.  Triplett scored 10 points, pulled down 5 rebounds and swatted 3 shots by halftime, while Webster bombed away from the arc for four treys, breaking down the Andrean zone defense, and tallied 17 points at the half.  With this inside-outside onslaught, the Bulldogs could not be stopped and were ahead 29-18 at the break.

In the second half, Triplett opened it up with 3 straight buckets, and then scoring became more balanced as the Bulldog bench stepped up.  Keri Cuculich, Amy Zondor, Cassie Pruzin and Jill Weiand all added to the total to finish out the quarter ahead 44-29.

In the final stanza, Webster opened up the scoring by burying her fifth trey of the night (breaking a Lady Bulldogs record for 3-pointers in one game), thanks to a heads-up assist from backcourt mate Ashley Plumley.  Crown Point pulled even further ahead, and with scoring from Stephanie Swanson, Plumley, Weiand, Kathleen Fredericks and another trey from Zondor, the Bulldogs racked up their second win of the season by a convincing margin.

Official scoring for CP:  Webster 21 (5a, 3r), Triplett 18 (8r, 5b), Zondor 6, Weiand 4 (5r, 2s), Plumely 2 (3r), Pruzin 2 (2a), Reeves 2, Swanson 2, Cuculich 2 (4r), Fredericks 1, Heneghan 0 (8r)

The Crown Point Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an opening period 10-3 lead against Andrean’s Lady Fifty-Niners on Saturday night, but would suffer through a scoring drought through the next two quarters en route to their first loss of the season.

By the time the Lady Bulldogs (1-1) started their comeback run early in the fourth quarter, Andrean had already been on a 20-3 scoring run to open up a 10-point margin.

Crown Point narrowed the gap to four points on a pair of free throws by Kaitlyn Sertich with 1:26 remaining, but Andrean countered with a bucket of their own. Jill Weiand added two free throws in the waning seconds to lead the Lady Bulldogs with 8 points on the evening, but the rally was too little, too late.

Teresa Kaminski and Sertich each added 4 points apiece for Crown Point. Andrean’s Brooke Bosak led all scorers with 9 points, including 8 in the second quarter to trigger the Fifty-Niner scoring run.
