Crown Point earns piece of Duneland
Crown Point clinched at least a share of the Duneland Conference girls
basketball championship Friday night with an impressive 69-38 victory over
LaPorte.
The Class 4-A No. 5 Bulldogs improved their overall record to 15-1 and
their DAC mark to 6-0, one game ahead of 5-1 Valparaiso, which stayed alive by
defeating Portage.
After two minutes of play, coach Greg Samuelson's LaPorte club led 9-0. But
the Bulldogs responded with an overwhelming 29-2 run and were never threatened
thereafter. It was their ninth straight victory.
Junior guard Alex Webster paced the winners with 18 points, nine rebounds,
five assists and four steals.
LaPorte (7-9, 1-5) was led by junior center Katie Beckman with eight points
and six rebounds. She had to be helped off the floor in the third period but
did not suffer a recurrence of her knee injury.
