Point 55, Lake Central 37
The Bulldogs came out strong against the Indians in the first quarter, and it looked like it might be a blowout after the 'Dogs scored 17 points to LC's 8. But LC sophomore Kim Haviar had other ideas, hitting three straight treys, followed by an Erin Fosher bucket and trey to give the Indians a 22-21 lead at the 4:01 mark in the second. CP again failed to identify the perimeter shooter in their zone defense, and paid dearly for it. Despite the defensive breakdowns, however, CP came back with scoring from four different players to close out the half to stay ahead by just 4 points. Coach May switched to a man-to-man at the start of the second and it paid off in a big way. Senior Sarah Zondor started it off with a steal and layup (her first of three such plays in the quarter) 10 seconds in, and the 'Dogs never looked back, scoring 17 points in the third. A strong defensive effort in the fourth held LC to just 2 points in the quarter for a 10-2 scoring advantage and a 55-27 non-conference win. Guards Sarah Zondor and Alex Webster had a good shooting night, with 19 and 15 points, respectively, including a combined 16 for 19 from the charity stripe. Senior Nikki Borys was aggressive to the bucket and dropped in 10, while senior Amanda Bernard had an outstanding floor game in the first half with 3 steals, 2 rebounds and 2 assists, but sat in the second half due to lingering effects from the flu. Junior center Carissa Triplett was a threat in the paint again, opening the perimeter for her teammates and keeping LC's post game at bay.
