The Lady Bulldogs took awhile to get their motor running in their season opener at home, but came alive in the fourth quarter to put away their first win of the season in front of a fantastic crowd at the CP Doghouse.

Opponent Hebron came ready to play and took advantage early with some smart shooting, while the Bulldogs could not convert on a variety of shots, many in the paint.  It was all Sarah Zondor in the first, who got her team on the board with 6 points for the first quarter.

The 'Dogs trailed by 9 at the end of the first, but rallied in the second when junior Alex Webster reeled off 4 points and then fed teammates Carissa Triplett and Zondor for another 6 points to take the lead 16-15 with 3:30 to go in the half.  Hebron responded with a long shot for 3 and then senior Amanda Bernard came back at the Hawks with an offensive rebound and putback to make it 18-18 at the half.  Credit the Bulldogs defense in the second quarter for containing Hebron's potent shooting to only 3 points for the stanza after a 15-point first quarter for the Hawks.

Senior Nikki Borys scores over Hebron's Lauren Bechtold in the fourth quarter to spark a 10-0 run to close out the game.

In the third, both teams took awhile to get it into gear, and went fairly even for the quarter.  Triplett hauled down 3 rebounds, blocked 1 shot and scored on a putback all within the span of 30 seconds midway through the quarter to keep it going.  Junior Ashley Plumley scored her first points of the season with a pretty jump shot at 20 seconds to go to give the 'Dogs a 1-point lead, but a defensive breakdown in the final seconds of the quarter allowed a Hebron bucket at the buzzer to give the lead back to the Hawks.

Trailing by 1 to start the final quarter, CP finally came alive and showed what they were capable of with great defense and a string of scores, including two quick buckets by senior Nikki Borys to spark a 10-0 run to finish out the quarter for the win.

This was a strong ending for the Bulldogs who had difficulty closing the deal in a number of close games against some ranked opponents last season.  If CP's fourth quarter was any indication, this could be an interesting year for the Lady Bulldogs.

Unofficial scoring for CP:  Zondor 20, Webster 8, Triplett 6, Borys 4, Bernard 2, Plumley 2, Heneghan 1

 Scoring by Quarters:

CP 6 12 8 17 43
Heb 15 3 9 8 35
