Megan Eckert
Manchester, senior guard
Eckert moved to point guard this season, but the transition did not hinder
her scoring abilities. She averaged 23.0 points, 6.6 rebounds and 5.7 assists
per game – making her one of the most well-rounded and dominant basketball
players in the state.
Sarah Gordon
Prairie Heights, senior forward
Gordon shattered every scoring record in Prairie Heights' record books
this season by averaging 21.7 points per game. Prairie Heights finished
second in the NECC under Gordon's leadership and made the finals of the
Westview Sectional.
Rachel King
Bishop Luers, sophomore guard
King was the emotional leader on a team of exceptional role players. Luers
won the Class 2A state title and the SAC regular-season title, and lost
just once in 28 games. In addition to her hustle and leadership, King led
the team in scoring (12.4), assists (4.0) and was second in rebounds (4.9).
Maria Marchesano
Elmhurst, sophomore guard
Marchesano came into her own this season and made it through the winter
without some of the foot troubles that hindered her last season. Her shooting
ability kept defenders on their heels. She averaged 20.7 points per game
and led Elmhurst to its first semistate.
Amy Meyer
South Adams, senior forward
Meyer was one of the area's best-kept offensive secrets entering this season
and averaged 17.3 points per game. Meyer's most impressive showing came
in the Allen County Athletic Conference Tournament, where she took the
Starfires to the finals and earned MVP honors.
Brooke Minniear
Snider, senior guard/forward
Minniear defined a resilient Snider team, refusing to let the Panthers
lose in the fourth quarter. Her 13.1 points per game paced a balanced attack
and her floor leadership was recognized by her Mental Attitude Award. Snider
finished second in the state in Class 4A.
Connie Myers
Columbia City, junior forward
Myers may not have the most polished inside game in the area, but she is
certainly the most effective at her job. She averaged 20.5 points and more
than 10 rebounds per game. Her ability to perform under pressure lifted
a young Eagles team to the ranks of the NHC's elite.
Maria Recker
DeKalb, senior forward
Recker, the PrepSports Girls Basketball Player of the Year, averaged 18.8
points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Recker repeatedly put the Barons on her
back and carried them to 20 victories in 23 tries. She helped DeKalb win
the NHC tourney and conference title.
Kate Rolf
Carroll, senior guard
Rolf averaged 16.3 points per game and was left to direct a depleted squad
after the loss of Andrea Krouse to injury. Rolf led the Chargers to the
finals of the Tippecanoe Valley Sectional and scored 69 points in two games.
Her 882 career points is a school record.
Sara Schaefer
Bishop Luers, senior center
Schaefer possessed the ability to run the floor and score inside for the
Knights. She shot better than 58 percent from the floor and averaged 10.1
points and seven rebounds per game. She is Luers' all-time leading rebounder
and won the Mental Attitude Award at state.
Brieann Starkweather
Whitko, senior forward
Starkweather was again a force in the paint. She averaged 17.9 points and
nine rebounds per game. Whitko thrived on her ability to create shots for
herself and her teammates in big games. Starkweather improved this season
on her jump shot and free-throw shooting.
Amy Waugh
Homestead, senior guard
Waugh is one of the best true point guards this area has produced in a
while. Her floor vision, desire to push the ball on the fast break and
deadly three-point shooting made the Spartans a tough squad. Waugh averaged
16.8 points and 5.1 assists per game.
