Here are our SUPER
SENIOR 25 pre-season
picks for 2003-2004 in alphabetical order.
(Many thanks to over 15 high school coaches who helped us select these players
for the first time at the RRR.) All of these players display outstanding skills and most carry exceptional
statistics. This class, especially in the Region, is deep and talented. HOW
deep? So deep we had to pad our Top 25. There are also lots of very good players who were
Just Under the Cut. These young ladies will be pushing
our SUPER SENIOR 25 throughout the season, and don't be surprised if a few of them push
their way near the front of the senior basketball class. We will be updating this list
with college choices as they are announced. (*Indicates players from the Northwest Indiana Region).
Candace Bain (6'2)
C, Clarksville - Doesn't get as much press, but is considered
one of the top post players in the state. Runs the floor well for her size.
Can dominate when she wants to. An excellent rebounder who also has a good
shooting touch around the basket. Averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds last
season. A member of the Indiana All-Star South Team this past summer. (BUTLER)
Janese Banks (5'10)
G/F, Ben Davis - A great athlete who excels on both offense and
defense. One of the most sought after recruits in Indiana. Excellent shooting
range. A member of the Indiana Junior All-Star Core Team this past summer, and
a 2003-04 Tremendous Twenty-Six selection. Listed as #80 in the 2003-04 Blue
Star Top 100 High School Player rankings. Averaged 19 points and 9 rebounds
last season. Considered a favorite for Miss Basketball this year. (WISCONSIN)
Kiki Bytnar* (5'6)
G, Calumet - One of the quickest guards in the state. Helped
Calumet to their first Sectional Championship since 1976. An excellent
long-range shooter, who can also penetrate to score. Considered by some to be
one of the top point guards in the Class of 2004. Selected 1st Team All-Area
by The Times and the Post-Tribune. Was an RRR All-Region 1st
Team selection last year and attended the
IBCA/IHSAA Top 100. Averaged 14.0 ppg, 5.7 apg, and 3.7 spg last season.

Ashley Cazee (5'6)
G, Martinsville - Sees the floor extremely well. Can slash to the
basket or hit the open three. Excellent shooting range. Great ball handling
and passing skills. A tough defender with cat-quick hands. Another in a long
line of outstanding Martinsville players. Averaged 18 points and 5 assists
last season. A member of the Indiana Junior All-Star South team this past

G, Perry Meridian - One of the top players in the nation. Listed as
#59 in the 2003-04 Blue Star Top 100 High School player rankings. A member of
the Indiana Junior All-Star South Team this past summer. A prolific scorer who
can score from the outside or take it to the hoop. Averaged 12 points per game
last year. Makes others around her better players. Is recovering from a summer
knee injury, but is still considered a Miss Basketball candidate this year.

Karima Davies* (6'1)
F/C, Gary West Side - An outstanding post player who made a
significant difference for the Lady Cougars over the last three seasons. One
of the best shot blockers in the Region with an excellent touch around the
basket. Her potential is unlimited. Averaged 11.2 points and 8.0 rebounds per
game last year. Selected All-Area 2nd Team by The Times. Was an RRR
All-Region 1st Team selection last season. Also, a 2003-04 Tremendous 26

Julie DeMuth* (5'11)
F, Highland - Has been a force for the Highland Lady Trojans since
her freshman year. Helped lead Highland to their third straight semi-state
appearance. Averaged 17.5 ppg, 7.9 rbg, and 3.5 spg. One of the top post
players in the state, Julie was selected to play on the Indiana Junior
All-Star Core Team this summer. A 2003-04 Tremendous 26 selection.
Named to the LAC All-Conference First Team, The Times All-Area 1st
Team, Post-Tribune All-Area 1st Team, and AP All-State Honorable
Mention. Was also named Player of the Year by The Times and
Post-Tribune. The RRR All-Region Player of the Year last
season. Considered a top candidate for Miss Basketball this year. (BALL

Belinda Drake* (5'4)
G, Gary West Side - The emotional and energy catalyst for a
successful Lady Cougars team. Helped Gary West Side roll to a 20-4 record and
a Sectional Championship. Defeated unbeaten #2 state-ranked East Chicago
Central Cardinals in the Sectional. Averaged 8 points and 4.3 assists per game
last year. Named Post-Tribune Honorable Mention All-Area and selected
The Times 1st Team All-Area. Was an RRR All-Region 1st Team selection

G, Rochester - A quick and agile guard who can score from the
perimeter or slash to the basket. Her quickness also makes her an excellent
defender. An excellent athlete who broke into the starting lineup as a
freshman. A member of the Indiana Junior All-Star North team this past summer.
Averaged 19.2 points and 7 assists last year. Led Rochester to a 22-3 season
and 2A Sectional Championship. (EVANSVILLE)
Whitney Frame (5'9)
G, Randolph Southern - Good athlete with excellent all-around
skills. Fundamentally sound player who can penetrate to score or hit the
outside jumper. A team player with the ability to make her teammates better
players. A tough competitor who knows how to win. Finished in the Top
10 of the state in scoring averaging 25 points a game. A member of the Indiana
Junior All-Star South Team this past summer. (College undecided) Cassie Freeman (5'10)
G, Heritage Christian - Very quick and athletic for her size. The
5'10 Freeman helped propel her team to a 23-2 record and a No. 1 ranking in 2A
last season. Averaged 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4.5 assists as a junior. Will
join Candace Bain at Butler University next year. A member of the Indiana
Junior All-Star North Team last summer. (BUTLER)
Kaleigh Gossman
(6'0) F/C, Castle - Much more athletic
and talented than her father. (Sorry, just couldn't resist zinging my old
college roommate -- just kidding Dave!) Considered one of the top post players
in the state. Runs the floor well for her size. Can bang with the big girls
inside or score from the perimeter. A member of the Indiana Junior All-Star
South team this past summer and is a 2003-04 IHSBG Tremendous 26 pick. Will only

(5'11) F/C, North Knox - Very physical player who
finds a way to score. Excellent defender. A tough rebounder who has become one
of the top post players in the state. She's the niece of NBA Star Tom
Gugliotta. She averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds this past season. A member
of the Indiana Junior All-Star South Team this past summer. Lots of potential
and good basketball genes make her a good college prospect. (LAMAR)
Gretchen Haehl (5'5)
G, Shelbyville - An excellent scorer who has the strength to
penetrate and can put up big numbers in a hurry. Can nail it from the
perimeter or slash to the basket. Good quickness makes her a tough defender.
Selected 2nd Team All-State by Hoosier Basketball Magazine last year. Averaged

Lauren Hutton* (5'6)
G, Valparaiso - Had a great year for the Lady Vikings as a solid
and calming presence for a very young team. Led the team in scoring while also
being called on to defend the opponent’s best player. Always hit the big shots
in big games last season. Led Valparaiso to a Portage Sectional Championship.
Selected All-Area 1st Team by The Times and 3rd Team All-Area by the
Post-Tribune. Was an RRR All-Region 1st Team selection last year and
attended the IBCA/IHSAA Top 100. Averaged

F, Brebeuf - Very quick and athletic for her size. Great ball
handling skills for a big girl. Quick first step to the basket allows her to
blow by slower post players. Considered by many in the know to be one of the
top players in the state. Tons of potential at the college level. A member of
the Indiana All-Star North Team last summer. (NORTH TEXAS)
Marshay Jolly* (5'9)
G, Merrillville - Helped lead the Lady Pirates to a great season
advancing all the way to the Sectional Championship Game at Portage last
season. Marshay (right) is one of the area’s top rebounding guards, and has an excellent
all-around game. Selected to the Indiana Junior All-Star North Team. Named
Duneland Conference MVP. Named All-Area 1st Team by The Times and
Post-Tribune. Was an RRR All-Region 1st Team selection last year and is a
2003-04 IHSBG Tremendous 26 pick. Averaged
14.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg, and 1.8 spg this past season. (Lists Columbia,

F, Mooresville - Excellent post player who will only get better on
the wing at the college level. Can post up or score from the perimeter. Has an
excellent all-around game. She's a force in the paint. A member of the Indiana
Junior All-Star Core team this past summer. Averaged 15 points and 6 rebounds a

Jaclyn Leininger (6'0)
F, Warsaw - An athletic forward (left) with good shooting range.
Very strong, can play inside with the big girls or light it up from the
perimeter. A tough defender who is quick and smooth for her size. A member of
the Indiana Junior All-Star Core team this past summer. Averaged 21 points and 6
rebounds last season. Could be a top contender for Miss Basketball. (MIAMI

(5'7) G, Hamilton Southeastern - One of the top guards in the state
this year. Excellent quickness and ball handling ability make her
difficult to guard. A solid defender with quick hands and feet. Averaged 12
points and 8 assists last season. A member of the Indiana Junior All-Star
North team this past summer. (College undecided) Kristin Miller
(6'0) F/C, Tri-Central - Another one who doesn't get much press,
but has outstanding skills. A bring your lunch bucket, blue-collar type
player, who has good size and strength. Has excellent offensive skills. Scored
25 points and hauled in 15 rebounds and was named MVP of the 1A State Champion
Game last year. Averaged 13 points and 10 rebounds last season. Was an
alternate for the Indiana Junior All-Star North team. (College

Brittany Myers
(5'9) G/F,
Madison - One of top players down south is getting looks from some
high-level DI programs. Recovering from a knee injury that kept her second-half
stats below normal last season. Still managed to average 19.8 points a game last
season and could contend for the state scoring title this season. (BELMONT)
Becca Papach*
(5'10) G/F, Whiting - Led NWI in scoring
last season at an amazing 21.8 points-per-game clip to go along with 10.8
rebounds per game. A hard-working, blue-collar player that is a threat in the
paint but who can drop it in from anywhere on the floor. Whiting's all-time
leading scorer will graduate as the best player ever to come out of the 1A
Whiting system. Honors include IBCA/IHSAA
Top 100, The Times 2nd Team All-Area, Post-Tribune 2nd Team
All-Area and 1st Team RRR All-Area. (Listing Illinois State,

Rebekah Parker
(5'10) G/F, Tippecanoe Valley - An athletic forward with good
shooting range. Very strong, rebounds well inside holding her own among the big girls.
Good outside scoring touch makes her a threat to score from the perimeter. A
tough defender, she played football in junior
high. A member of the Indiana Junior All-Star North team this past summer.
Averaged 18 points and 6 rebounds last season. Led Tippecanoe Valley to a 3A
Sectional Championship. (EVANSVILLE)
Amanda Quattrocchi
(5'6)
G, Brebeuf Jesuit - Considered by many as the best "pure"
point guard in the state. Broke the school record for assists at Brebeuf early
in her junior year. Will join high school teammate Amber Jackson on the roster
at North Texas next year. (NORTH TEXAS)
Andrienne Squire
(6'0) G/F, Indian Creek - She can dominate when she wants to.
Excels on both offense and defense. One of the most complete players in the
state. Has excellent court awareness and is also a great rebounder. A member
of the Indiana Junior All-Star Core team this past summer. Averaged 26 points
a game last year. A leading candidate for Miss Basketball. (PENN STATE) Robyn Stone
(5'6) G, Lawrence North - An excellent athlete with a smooth style
of play. Has the speed to beat the defender off the dribble. Her lightening
quick speed on defense creates nightmares for opposing teams. A member of the
Indiana Junior All-Star Core Team last summer. Averaged 16 points, 11
rebounds, and 4 assists last season. Another Miss Basketball candidate. (College

Jennifer VanderZanden*
(5'11) F, Lake Central - Helped lead the Indians to a great season
against a brutal schedule. Despite her size, she is one of the area’s top post
players. Has an excellent all-around game. Selected All-Area 1st Team by
The Times, 3rd Team by the Post-Tribune and attended the
IBCA/IHSAA Top 100. Was an RRR All-Region
1st Team selection last season. Averaged 13.5 ppg and 7.6 rpg this past

Alyse Bruszewski*
(5'8) F, Wheeler - A tough competitor that has been an impact
player for the Bearcats since her freshman season. Averaged 10.1 points over
21 games last season and will be an important leadership factor for a Wheeler
team that is expected to make waves in their first season with the Lake
Athletic Conference. Was a Times Honorable Mention in 2002-03.

Cat Campbell* (5'7)
G, Chesterton - The last of a long line of talented daughters for
successful and respected Coach Jack Campbell at Chesterton. Cat is a smart
player that gives 100% every game. Averaged 8.0 points as the savvy floor
leader for the Trojans last season and should have a great senior season. Was
a Times Honorable Mention in 2002-03 and attended the
IBCA/IHSAA Top 100. (Indiana

Holly Martin (5'7) G, North
Newton - An excellent penetrating guard who kicks the ball out for wide
open shots by her team mates. Selected Honorable Mention by The Times
and averaged 11.0 points per game last season. (College undecided)
Kim McCloskey* (5'10)
G/F, Andrean - The answer to Andrean's offense last season, averaging
9.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. The 'Niners will be depending on her
more than ever this season and our best guess is that she is up to the
challenge. Was a Times Honorable Mention in 2002-03. (MONMOUTH)
Nikki McDonald* (5'7)
G, Portage - Was a contributing factor for the Indians early on as a
freshman and has had to help carry the load for Portage ever since. A good
floor leader who has matured greatly in skills and confidence. She will be the
emotional leader and main offensive threat for a young and rebuilding Portage
team this season. Was a Times Honorable Mention in 2002-03 and attended
the IBCA/IHSAA Top 100.
Averaged 10.5 points over 22 games last season. (College

Jill McElmurry
(5'9) G, Hanover Central - She has good size for a guard and can score
from anywhere on the floor. Voted to the PCC All-Conference Team last season
and All-Area Honorable Mention by The Times and Post-Tribune.
Averaged 13.7 points per game in 2002-03. (College undecided)
Blayre Reeves* (5'10) F,
Crown Point - A strong inside player that started for the Bulldogs as a
sophomore and a junior. The best of CP's Class of 2004, this should be her
best season yet as a senior leader for a young Bulldogs team. Attended the
IBCA/IHSAA Top 100.

Lisa Schulfer* (6'0)
F/C, Lowell - An impact player since her frosh season, Schulfer has
helped carry the Red Devils program for the past three years. A good defender
around the basket, Schulfer is athletic and hard-working. A Times
Honorable Mention in 2002-03. (College undecided)
Linsey Smith*
(5'10) G, Lake Central - A deadly threat from 3-point range, Smith has
been a staple in the Lake Central lineup since her freshman season. Averaged
11.2 points per game last season while shooting 77% from the free throw line.
Was a Times 2nd Team All-Area and RRR 2nd Team in 2002-03. (College undecided)
Megan Walczak* (5'9)
G/F, Hobart - A much overlooked player in NWI, but she produces every
time out on the floor. A natural 2 or 3, but pitched in as point guard for a
young Brickies team last season. Averaged 12.0 points per game and shot 87%
from the free throw line as a junior. Was All-Duneland Conference, a Times
Honorable Mention and 2nd Team All-RRR in 2002-03. (College
